US Chargers

The US lightset chargers are manufactured by the Foshan Shunde Guanyuda Power Supply Co Ltd. in GuangDong,China. They have been in business since 1999.

Here is a link to their website showing the type of power supply used. gve-cn.com

This company manufactures a number of similar power supplies that are all UL certified as shown by this UL file. #QQGQ.E321192 . In the case of the specific charger provided for the MagicShine light sets, the 8.4V DC required is not one of their off-the-shelf voltages. It seems a new variation was created with this specific output voltage, a new model number was given to the charger and the UL certification that applies to the product line was placed on the charger.

However, whenever a new model number is created, it must be added to the UL certification. This custom charger has not yet been added and as such is, at least temporarily, in violation of the UL listing.

This in no way means the charger is unsafe, it simply means the paper work was not filed in a timely manner and technically the UL mark should not have been place on the product until they had the ok from UL.

About UL:
Underwriters Laboratories is a for-profit private testing laboratory that test all types of products and certifies that those product meet a given safety standard. These standards are drawn up by an independent panel of experts in the field covering the specific type of product and include manufacturers as well as consumer representatives. The certifications are not required in the United States or most other countries. It is however, a way to guarantee to the public that a product is safe. Some states or cities require that all electrical products meet certain safety standards and certain larger retailer also require that all the products they sell are certified.

UL is one of many labs that can test and certify products. (www.ul.com
